Angel Fire, NM Divorce Buyout in New Mexico
Since 1979 Somerset Investors Corp. Co. has been considered a leader in the residential mortgage lending business and is currently licensed in 26 states, including New Mexico, offering its expertise in many of the circumstances that life brings to many homeowners. In most cases Somerset has been able to provide lower payments for the spouse remaining while giving large cash outs to the other. Our Divorce Buyout Loan Specialists work with you to determine how much of a loan you need and what it will cost to refinance.Following is an example of how Divorce Buyout works:
Example: John and Jane own a house valued at $500,000, with a mortgage (or mortgages) that total $300,000. If you subtract the value from the total loan about ($500,000 - $300,000) you get the equity of the house, in this case $200,000. If John and Jane split their assets 50-50, each have $100,000 equity in the house. Therefore, if John wishes to keep the house, he would need to refinance the mortgage(s) with a total loan amount of $400,000 and use the remaining $100,000 to buy out his spouse.

Outreach focuses on tax returns, rebates
In October, most people are not thinking about filing a tax return, and certainly not people who are exempt from that annual task, but this time they most likely will want to fill one out. And the state plans to help them file those returns next week. It's not that the state is hoping to uncover more tax revenue. Instead, the state wants to give money to these tax filers who usually don't have to worry about April 15 or any other tax deadlines. More than 100 tax preparers will be sent throughout the state Wednesday to help New Mexicans file their 2007 state income tax return so they can get their tax rebate. Tax preparers will be in Colfax County at the Motor Vehicle Division office in Raton (in the Dona Ana Shopping Center) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at First National Bank in Angel Fire. Appointments are required at the bank location and can be made by calling 377-0646.

Settlement reached in discrimination lawsuit
A settlement was reached last week between Angel Fire officials and a former village police officer who claimed she was discriminated against in her job and defamed by statements made by the police chief. In a lawsuit filed in Raton District Court last November and eventually transferred to federal court in Albuquerque, Christina Roth alleged she was paid less than a male officer hired near the same time she was by the village police department in 2004. She also claimed Police Chief Bill Kitts began to make false statements to other officers and the public "to defame" her after she broke off their personal, romantic relationship that had allegedly begun at Kitts's request before she was hired.

'Biofuel' mill hopes to offer 80-100 jobs
Architectural drawings are being finalized and site preparation is ongoing for a sawmill that could eventually become one of the Cimarron area's biggest employers. The mill that will produce "biofuel cubes" to fire power plant boilers could employ as many as 80 to 100 people once it gets rolling. Located about three miles outside of Cimarron along N.M. 58, the mill is being planned by a company called GreenTech, a subsidiary of Florida-based Global Green Holdings. Chuck McKendree, the GreenTech general manager in Cimarron, explained that GreenTech is a "forest management company." The company began talking to the Express UU Bar Ranch about helping with forest thinning, and those discussions led to figuring out something to do with the dead trees, downed trees and undergrowth that the ranch wanted to remove.
