Mortgage crisis hits renters everywhere in Massachusetts!
"People, especially families, are losing their tenancies and falling into homelessness. In Massachusetts alone, more and more renters are facing homelessness due to the large increase in home seizures. Research shows the average costs of homelessness to taxpayers range from about $35,000-$150,000 annually in hospital emergencies and law enforcement services. Federal funding has reached a record $5 billion as homeless, down by 30%, shows 176,000 people in 2005 to only 124,000 in 2007. In Massachusetts, the state is spending more than $8 million on regional pilot programs proposed by the Patrick adminstration with the goal of ending homelessness by 2013. Massachusetts ultimately hopes to begin redirecting these funds from emergency bed shelters to more permanent, affordable housing for the homeless!

We can now breathe easier..." - L. Braun
