Governor tours NC tornado damage areas

Gov. Mike Easley toured tornado damage Saturday in three North Carolina counties and said in addition to one fatality that eight people were injured and scores of homes were damaged.

Easley said it would be Monday before damage estimates were available.

Eight homes were destroyed and at least 92 homes and businesses were damaged in the storm late Thursday and early Friday, Easley said after an aerial tour of damage in Guilford, Forsyth and Davie counties.

'Nobody is displaced at this point,' Easley said. 'Everybody has family and a place to go.' Read more

2008 Blu Moon Film Festival MAY 3RD
The East Carolina University and the Magnolia Art Center are presenting the 2008 Blu Moon Film Festival on Saturday, May 3rd in the AJ Fletcher Music Building on the campus of ECU. This year's event will include a red carpet gala final screening of the prize-winning films submitted from high school, community colleges and film/video programs throughout Eastern North Carolina. The screening is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The festival will also include a free day of panel discussions/career workshops for aspiring media students and video/film professionals. North Carolina counties under flood warnings after storms

The National Weather Service has issued flood and tornado warnings for parts of North Carolina after storms dumped up to a half-foot of rain.

Forecasters say radar indicated a tornado over Bailey, although authorities report no major damage.

Several counties are under flood advisories. A thunderstorm brought penny-sized hail to Wendell, about 20 miles east of Raleigh.

Forecasters expect the rain and storms to continue through Monday night.

In northeastern Minnesota, the community of Floodwood is also under a flood warning. Read more
