11/16/2008 12/16/2008 Morris Township NJ MORRIS TWP. -- Joseph J. Murphy died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at the N.J. Firemen's Home, Boonton, N.J. He was 76. Born in Morristown, he lived in Mendham, N.J., for 20 years before moving to Morris Township 25 years ago. He was a 1953 graduate of Morristown High School. He served in the Army, 2nd Infantry during the Korean conflict. At age 16, Joe enlisted with the National Guard, was sent to Korea for two years and returned to graduate from high school. He was an animal control officer with the town of Morristown for 25 years, retiring in 1997. He was a volunteer fireman with the Mendham Volunteer Fire Department. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 59 of Morristown. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Whalen) Murphy; two children, Sean Michael Murphy and Elizabeth Mary Murphy, both of Morris Township; a brother, John T. Murphy; a nephew, Todd Murphy; and many cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Morristown, on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Hours of visitation at the Doyle Funeral Home, 106 Maple Ave., Morristown, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to the N.J. Firemen's Home, Lathrop Ave., Boonton, N.J.
