Raritan, NJ FHA Loans in New Jersey

FHA loans differ from conventional loans in a number of ways. The down payment required for an FHA-insured loan is usually much lower than for conventional loans. FHA loans also have lower credit requirements than conventional loans, making them more available to a wider range of potential homebuyers.

FHA loans offer Raritan, NJ residents several other valuable benefits, not least of which is those aforementioned smaller down payments. Unlike a conventional loan, which ordinarily requires 10-20% down, FHA-insured loans only require down payments as low as 3-5%. The FHA is also more flexible in calculating factors to determine whether or not to approve the loan, factors such as household income and repayment ratios.

Raritan incumbents finally get their due

vIt took more than two weeks to confirm, but Raritan Borough Democratic council members Victor Laggini Jr. and Denise Carra finally earned their re-election recently. A prolonged process of wading through provisional ballots prompted the delay. Most remarkable, though, was that the race was even close enough for those ballots to matter so much. Raritan Borough is for the most part a Democratic stronghold. And the community's council races in recent years have been notable mostly for the absence of contentious issues. The borough has varied challenges, like most every other New Jersey town. But Republicans have had a difficult time pinning any specific problems on the Democrats. Complaints about high taxes are a given everywhere, but municipal officials often deserve minimal blame considering the state's high overall tax climate. It was no different this year for Republican challenges Stefanie Gara and Greg Lobell - except they successfully generated some voter dissatisfaction with an issue more symbolic than financially significant. Laggini and Carra both accept health benefits from the borough - at taxpayer expense. That clearly struck a nerve with some voters, especially given the crumbling economy. We'll give a hit to some effective campaigning from the Republicans. But considering they also offered so little meaningful criticism of how borough officials are running the town, we figure Laggini and Carra deserve a hit too for winning another term on merit. vGenerating good buzz xHoliday punch Toll hikes along the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike are kicking in on Monday. One-way Parkway tolls are going from 35 to 50 cents. And the average 22-mile Turnpike trip will cost $1.70, up from $1.26. The hikes are part of the supposedly "scaled-down" version of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority's plan to help fund essential transportation projects. Of course this might have been the plan all along, starting with more outrageous proposals only to end up here as a "compromise." And it would have been more appropriate if state officials had bothered taking meaningful steps to slash state spending before resorting to generating more revenue. But there's no turning back now - unless you're looking for free roadways as an alternative.
