Q & A with Storyville Gifts & Cards
Describe your Business: Gabi: "We've always known we wanted to own our own business. When we moved into the area in 2006 and discussed business ideas, it occurred to us that there were no card stores. We got tired of going to large box stores or the mall just to pick up a card or the perfect, quick, gift. Since Brian's family has been in the card store business in one way or another for 20+ years, it seemed a no-brainer" Brian: "We call it a Distinctive, Earth Friendly Cards and Gifts shop...We try to carry beautiful and unique grab and go gift items that are affordable and appropriate for the special occasions in our lives, but also cards and gifts that are great for just making someone smile. We are working to become as green as we can be and carry humorous cards lines that are printed on recycled paper, though there is much more to be done to really "green" the store. We LOVE carrying traditional toys and gifts for children that encourage imaginative play, like toys from Melissa & Doug and Mud Pie. It's the perfect store for that last minute birthday party gift." Are you known for anything special?:Brian: "We are fortunate to bring you the works of many local artists and artisans who create in different mediums. Many other unique crafts from local artists include hand carved "Welsh Love Spoons", holistic healing bath salts and body warmers and homemade aprons for the chef in your house." What do you like most?: Gabi: "We love the feel and ambiance we have created and work hard at getting and keeping good vibrations throughout the store. Our customers have told us it makes a difference in their shopping experience. It always brings a smile to our faces when customers spend an hour giggling through our card collection" What's your biggest challenge?:Gabi: "Getting our name out there. New faces continue to say "wow, great store, I didn't know you were here"...And we are celebrating our one year anniversary this week." Brian: Trying to open a successful store this year has had its own challenges given the state of things, but most difficult has been finding the store's voice when competing with the big stores for a customers' attention. There is so much more we want to bring to and into the store, we hope that people will adopt us as their neighborhood store and stick with us and watch us grow.
