Long Island woman gives birth to identical triplets
A Long Island woman has delivered a set of identical triplets -- an event that North Shore University Hospital says happens in one of every 200 million births. Allison and Tom Penn of Huntington became parents to Logan, Eli and Collin on Feb. 27. All three boys are healthy. Dr. Victor Klein, who delivered the boys, said many triplets are considered to be identical but if they are born naturally no one generally knows for sure. He says because Allison Penn received in vitro fertilization, doctors know the boys were born from one embryo that split twice and from one placenta, the organ that nourishes the babies. Read more
