Hours before Mohammed Kareem Moh Alshehabi was to board a plane back to the Middle East on Tuesday, the 5-year-old Iraqi boy cut himself a piece of cake loaded with icing, opened gifts and batted a large helium-filled balloon as if it were a punching bag. He was the celebrated guest at an informal farewell party thrown by doctors, nurses and others at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where the boy had undergone two corrective surgeries for an intestinal birth defect that he couldn't receive in his war-torn country.
