Decatur, TN Mortgage Refinance in Tennessee

We make it easy to get the lowest mortgage refinance interest rate in Decatur, TN.

Our loan specialists can customize a loan that is perfect for your needs. In no time at all, Decatur, TN residents can be on the way to a lower interest rate, a lower monthly payment, or switching from an adjustable rate mortgage to a fixed rate mortgage.

When Should I Refinance?

The best time to refinance is when interest rates in Decatur, Tennessee drop below the rate of your current mortgage.  With a lower interest rate, you'll save money on your mortgage payment every month.  Be sure to read our article titled Reasons to Refinance Now.

Turn Your Adjustable Rate into a Fixed Rate

With adjustable rates on the rise Decatur, TN residents can benefit greatly from refinancing your home for a low fixed rate.  These benefits include a lower monthly mortgage payment, and the security of knowing your mortgage payment won't increase.

Cash-Out Refinancing

Using the equity in your home, you can refinance your mortgage for a higher amount than your current principal balance and receive the extra funds as cash.  You can use this money however you would like, including, remodeling your home, paying off high-interest rate credit cards, paying off student loans, or consolidating all your debt.  How much cash out you can receive by refinancing depends largely upon the principal balance remaining on your mortgage and the amount of equity in your home.

Eliminate PMI

Private Mortgage Insurance is usually required if your downpayment on your home was less than 20 percent.  If your home equity has increased since your purchase, you may have enough equity to elimate that PMI payment by refinancing your mortgage.

Save Thousands in Interest

When you refinance your home you can decide to switch your mortgage to a shorter term, such as 10, 15, or 20 years.  Depending on how much lower the refinance rate is, you will likely pay more per month for this shorter term home loan.  However, in the long-term you are saving thousands in interest.  And because more of your monthly mortgage payment goes towards the principal, your home equity will increase much quicker.

Decatur, Tennessee News
Decatur's Mayor Henry Won't Run Again
by RICHARD EDWARDS, Post Athenian Managing Editor

Saying he believes it's time to take a break from public service, Decatur Mayor Dean Henry has announced he won't be seeking re-election.

Henry has served as the town's mayor since 2005 but his tenure in public office goes back to 1994 when he was elected to the Meigs County School Board. He was re-elected to the School Board in 1998, then appointed to the Decatur Planning Commission in 2001. In 2002, the same year his second term on the School Board ended, Henry was selected to fill a vacancy on the Decatur Board of Aldermen. He was elected mayor in 2005.

"I really appreciate the people of the Third District for electing me twice to the School Board and also the people of Decatur for electing me as mayor," Henry said. "They entrusted me to those positions and I appreciate the support I've gotten down through the years. "We have an outstanding Board of Aldermen and I enjoyed working with them. I felt we really accomplished a lot by working together."
Meigs, Decatur To Pool Resources To Find New Jobs
The industrial development board formed in Meigs County is getting $25,000 from the city of Decatur to move forward with its recruitment efforts, and the Meigs County Commission could be adding $25,000 as well.

Representatives of the Meigs County-Decatur Industrial Development Corporation made presentations to the Decatur Mayor and Board of Aldermen and the County Commission Thursday night. Decatur's board approved the $25,000 donation in a 4-2 vote. Said Alderman Jeff Landrum, "You have to spend a little money to make any."

A few blocks away, no official action could be taken by the County Commission because it was a work session and not a regular monthly meeting but County Mayor Ken Jones said he'd prepare a resolution on the funding proposal for the Commission's meeting this Thursday.

Several commissioners said they were impressed by the efforts the development board has done.

"It does appear you have done a lot of work, and I appreciate that," Commissioner Lisa Knight said after the Power Point presentation from the development board's Melvin Holmes.

Industrial recruiting has moved to the forefront with Southeast Tennessee counties trying to get their foot in the door to lure companies that would be suppliers to the Volkswagen plant to be built in Hamilton County.

Meigs County already has a 52-acre industrial park site available, and Holmes' presentation - which he said isn't complete - highlighted the selling points Meigs would make toward prospective industries.
Video Released in ATM Heist
A similar crime happened in Meigs County the same day, hours earlier, and Cleveland investigators are now working to confirm that the two crimes are related.

Early Saturday morning, Nov 8th, a video shows a white Chevy Blazer try and fail to break through the entrance at Harry's Convenience store in Cleveland. Minutes later glass shatters, and the rear of the SUV crashes into the store.

Detective Brian Pritchard says it appears one person gets out of the Blazer and ties a chain to the ATM. A second person helps load the money machine. In less than two minutes from the time the break-in happens, the Blazer pulls away.

Cleveland police recovered the ATM miles away in Hamilton County, mangled and empty. Pritchard says it appears the thieves used a sledge hammer and a crow bar to pry the machine open. But while the machine was empty, investigators say it was full of one thing: fingerprints.

Investigators also located a vehicle matching the description of the Blazer in the video. Pritchard says the vehicle has damage and glass particles consistent with the crime scene.

A person of interest has been interviewed, and charged in Meigs County in connection with the theft there.
Authorities Search for Suspected Fire Bug
A local sheriff's department needs help from the community to find a suspected arsonist.

Meigs County authorities think an arsonist may be at work in one community and are warning residents to be on the lookout.

One Meigs County detective says three fires have happened within 5 miles of one another in the Ten Mile community. Evidence at each fire shows they were intentionally set.

Officials say nobody was hurt in any of the fires and that all of the properties were vacant.

Police need help and ask that if you have any information; call the Meigs County Sheriff's Department at 334-5268.
Ninth Judicial Watch: Man Gets 90 Days for Raping 14-Year-Old Step-Daughter
Just how serious is the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl? Opinions will vary. Form your own, and I'll save mine for the blog.

Ninth Judicial District Criminal Court Judge Eugene Eblen has sentenced a man to 90 days in jail, followed by supervised probation for the balance of two years, for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl who was his stepdaughter.

For the victim, former stepfather Kevin M. Spurling remains a "monster" who continues to haunt her daily thoughts. As a result of the incidents, she went into a deep depression. "I would cut my arms or sides to let out some of my suppressed feelings of hurt," according to her statement.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel one person has objected that this sentence is unjust! To Roane County Public Defender Walter Johnson, the judge's decision was too harsh and a likely subject of appeal. Mr. Johnson had requested judicial diversion for his client, which Judge Eblen denied.

One more item: The victim's mother is apparently pleased with the sentence, saying she was surprised that Spurling got jail time.

DAG Russell Johnson said state officials assured him Monday that Spurling is also a candidate for the state's sex-offender registry. Thus, I have no problem with posting his picture here.
