City joins regional effort on air quality

KELLER -- After taking some heat from neighboring cities for rejecting a regional Clean Fleet Vehicle plan, the City Council on Tuesday approved a tweaked resolution supporting the policy.

In January, the council rejected the policy, which calls for cities to replace 2003 and older-model vehicles with new vehicles that put out 25 percent less pollution. Councilmen Mark Harness, Ray Brown and Jim Carson voted against the policy at the time.

The Clean Fleet Vehicle policy was adopted in 2005 by the Regional Transportation Council, the transportation planning body for the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Since then, the council has been calling on cities to adopt the policy to show their support for a regional approach to clean air. Read more
