It's back to school time. While the phrase often is accompanied by a groan from school-aged children who dread seeing summer come to an end, September is here and that means the start of school.

25 YEARS AGO: Mr. and Mrs. Ben (Edith) Reil of Oshkosh, formerly of the Abbotsford and Colby areas, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sept. 11 with an open house for family and friends at their home. They were married Sept. 12, 1933, in Colby. Receiving $300 scholarships recently were Susan Richmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerald Richmond, Greenwood, and Amy Horn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Horn, Greenwood. Richmond received the Extension Homemakers Scholarship, and Horn received the 4-H and Extension Homemakers Scholarship. 50 YEARS AGO: Work began last week on construction of the new Badger State Telephone company building in Neillsville, which will house the dial installation equipment and the business offices of the firm. 75 YEARS AGO: In cooperation with the National Recovery Administration, Marshfield residents will be busy in the city working toward two major goals. One is to have every consumer cooperate with firms displaying the blue eagle, and the other is to place every firm in the city under the blue eagle recovery banner.

Harlan, 18, of 40130 Lexington N., Shoreview, Minn.; guilty plea; possession of an illegally obtained prescription; $728 fine. Divorce * Shawn R. Woodford, Wood County, and Jacquelyn J. Woodford, of Clark County; married Oct. 6, 1995, in Wisconsin. * Mark Z. Brzezinski, 46, of 312 N. Central Ave., Marshfield; initial appearance Aug. 21 on a felony charge of forgery; $1,500 signature bond and pretrial conference set for Sept. 2. Police investigated a report that Brzezinski altered a check and used it to purchase items Nov. 3 at Wal-Mart in Marshfield, according to court records. * Cindy S. Kelz, 35, of 6535 Klondike Drive, Auburndale; found guilty; resisting an officer, $350 fine. A charge of disorderly conduct as a domestic abuse incident was dismissed. * Joel T. Hills, 20, of Ventura, Calif., formerly of Spencer; four Wood County charges of misdemeanor theft and one Marathon County charge of misdemeanor theft; 75 days in jail with work release and credit for two days already served and $540 in costs. The Wood County charges were reduced from a felony charge of theft by false representation. * Ronald C. Merritt, 38, of 4256 Highway X, Pittsville; disorderly conduct as a domestic abuse incident; 13 months of probation, $261 in costs and undergo any counseling deemed necessary. * Nicholas R. Leveque, 22, of 8641 Highway K, Arpin; being a party to the crimes of criminal trespass to a dwelling, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, $987 fine. A charge of being a party to the crime of obstructing an officer was dismissed. * David M. Altman, 20, of S2715 Bee Bee Road, Marshfield; default judgment; drunken driving; $667 fine, six-month driver's license revocation and alcohol assessment. * Michael J. Goergen, 43, of 8253 Jackson St., Pittsville; default judgment; drunken driving; $803 fine, one-year driver's license revocation and alcohol assessment. * Eric J. Salisbury, 20, of D1889 Highway C, Stratford; default judgments; operating while suspended, speeding and failure to wear seat belt; fines totaling $356.80. * Rene N. Santoni, 27, of 1530 Alton St., Wisconsin Rapids; default judgments; fourth or subsequent offense operating while suspended and speeding; fines totaling $372. * Nikolai Brothers Trucking Inc., of 10896 S. The driver of a tractor was killed Thursday morning after the driver of an sport utility vehicle collided with the farm implement.
