10/19/2008 11/19/2008 Netcong NJ NETCONG -- James J. Sullivan Sr. died at home in Netcong on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, after a long illness. He was 90. Born in West Hoboken (Union City), Mr. Sullivan lived in Mount Arlington and Saylorsburg, Pa. He studied at the Franciscan Seminaries in both Staten Island and Rensselaer, N.Y., before pursuing a career in the insurance business. He was employed at Crum & Forster and the state of New Jersey Department of Taxation. Mr. Sullivan was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II. He had also been an Extraordinary Minister and Lector at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Mount Arlington, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Victoria 'Peggy' (Garofalow) Sullivan; his sons, James J. Sullivan Jr. of Andover Township, and Michael J. Sullivan of Sparta; and his daughters, Susan L. Alai of Morristown, and Margaret A. Coe of Independence Township. Mr. Sullivan is also survived by three grandchildren, Julia M. Alai, Victoria R. Coe and Charles H. Coe; and a sister, Ellen McGuire of Bloomfield. Predeceasing Mr. Sullivan were his brothers, Francis Sullivan and John Sullivan, as well as his sisters, Elizabeth Bell and Kathleen McBride. Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Route 206) Chester, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Roman Catholic Church in Budd Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory to: Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, N.J. 07834-1365.
